Residents evacuate after fire in South Park apartment complex

Residents at an apartment complex in South Park were forced to evacuate because of a fire.

A member of the Library Volunteer Fire Company said a kitchen caught fire in the building.

Emergency crews were sent to the building on Royal Drive at around 8:15 p.m. The fire was raised to a second alarm at around 8:23 p.m.

Crews said they were met with heavy heat and that apartment resident and their pets had to evacuate.

The building was ventilated and the residents were able to return to their homes, but fire crews say the resident of the apartment where the fire began will have to relocate.

The flames did not spread beyond that room and crews were able to put the fire out in around 20 minutes.

There were no injuries.
