Rhodes Scholar thankful for opportunity Steelers gave him

PITTSBURGH — Myron Rolle isn't your ordinary NFL hopeful. Rolle is a Rhodes Scholarship recipient, who earned a degree in medical anthropology while studying at Oxford University and he has his sights set on becoming a neurosurgeon. Rolle's academic success wasn't an accident.

"My parents come from the Bahamas and they made it a priority that academics was the No. 1 priority," Rolle said. "That's something that was routine in my life and it stuck with me and it just went to a bigger magnitude when I went to Florida State and had the opportunity to go to Oxford University. So you know I'm very proud of the position I'm in and humbled."

"Well I haven't been in surgery yet so this is tougher," Rolle said when asked what was tougher between football and surgery.

That type of back and forth you usually don't get between a player and a reporter at a Steelers rookie orientation and mini-camp but it's the question Channel 11's Rich Walsh asked Rolle.

The 6 foot 2 inch, 219-pound Rolle is also hungry. The safety out of Florida State and former sixth-round draft pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2010 is eager to prove he can play for the Steelers.

"Anytime I step on the field I see an opportunity. Every time I take a snap it’s my chance to show the coaches and the organization that I can contribute here and earn a spot," the safety said. "There is a level that I want to reach. There is a level that every man needs to reach here to be a Steeler and a part of this team. I'm just looking forward to grind every day to get there."

Rolle and his new teammates will return to the Steelers Complex on May 22.
