Road closures begin Friday for Pittsburgh Marathon; safety measures in place for weekend activities

PITTSBURGH — Some road closures around the city begin today at noon for the Pittsburgh Marathon, which will be held Sunday.

The first closure is a section of the Boulevard of the Allies.

Some of the events surrounding the marathon will be held tomorrow, including the 5K and kid’s marathon. Closures for those events start tomorrow morning and will last until early afternoon.

More closures are planned for Sunday.

In addition to road closures, marathon organizers will have several measures in place to keep people safe. They ask that all participants, volunteers and spectators to be aware of their surroundings and follow instructions of race, medical and police officials.

Report anything suspicious and don’t leave any items along the race route. Only registered participants with official numbers will be allowed inside the start-line corrals.
