Woman accused of shoplifting, hitting baby stroller with car turns herself in

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — One of the two suspects accused of shoplifting and hitting a baby stroller and guard with a car has turned herself in.

Ann-Breia Kelley, 24, turned herself in to police late Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Kelly was one of two suspects identified by Ross Township police that are accused of shoplifting from a Kohl’s store Monday evening and then striking a security guard and baby stroller with their getaway vehicle.

Police said they believe Kelley was the driver of the getaway vehicle.

Kelly is charged with four counts of recklessly endangering another person, retail theft and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

"She's not running from it. She's not hiding from it. She has two small children herself. She has a very good job, and we are just happy that no one was hurt,” Kelly’s attorney, Blaine Jones, said.

Police said the second suspect is a juvenile and therefore her name could not be released.

Authorities said they were called to the Kohl's on McKnight Road around 5:20 p.m. Monday after receiving a report that two black women in their 20s were stealing clothing.

A security officer at the store said she pursued the woman and girl into the parking lot where the suspects got into an older model white Ford.

The Kohl's security person was standing behind the car telling them to stop when the car backed up into the security person and pushed her out of the way, police said.

According to authorities, the security person was banging on the window telling the occupants to stop as they continued to back up, striking a baby stroller, which contained two children, a 3-year-old and 6-week-old.

"They started backing up, threatening to hit the store manager, so I stopped. But she did keep backing up and that's when she did make contact with the stroller," Melissa Cypher, the children’s mother, said.

Cypher and her two sons had come to the store to do some Christmas shopping.

"At that time, I was very angry. Momma bear kind of came out,” Cypher said.

She and her children were unharmed.

"I'm very thankful that we are blessed that they are OK, and it wasn't as bad as it could have been,” she said.

The security guard also was not injured.

Police used a license plate and photos to connect Kelly and the juvenile to the crime.

During the course of the investigation, authorities also linked the suspects to a shoplifting incident earlier Monday at the K-Mart at Monroeville Mall, according to the criminal complaint.
