PITTSBURGH — U.S. News and World Report has released its Best Graduate Schools lists for 2023, and several local universities were included in the rankings for an array of programs.
U.S. News and World Report releases rankings of graduate programs annually, but not every program is ranked each year. Also, a variety of methodologies are used depending on which type of graduate school is being assessed, but data ultimately comes from expert opinion and statistical indicators that measure quality. Students and faculty are also surveyed. Admissions test scores for incoming students and job placement rate for outgoing students is also considered. Schools that were ranked this year include business schools, law schools, education schools, engineering schools, medical schools and nursing schools.
In the business schools category, Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business came in at spot No. 16, and the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business came in at spot No. 55. Duquesne University’s Palumbo-Donahue School of Business was also included on the list, but was unranked within the group of schools at spots No. 102-134. Within each graduate school category, specific graduate programs are also ranked. In the part-time MBA category, the Tepper School of Business is at spot No. 6, with the Katz Graduate School of Business at spot No. 34 and the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business at spot No. 163. The Tepper School of Business also ranked at spot No. 2 for its business analytics program.
