CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — School leaders greeted students entering Ehrman Crest Elementary/Middle School for the first day of school at the brand-new building on Tuesday.
Channel 11 caught up with parents dropping their kids off at this state-of-the-art building that’s the first of its kind in Pennsylvania.
“As a parent, it’s such a cool experience. We moved here a few years ago so she wasn’t going to be here, so I think she’s meant to be here,” said parent Lindsay Lanigan.
The school is an innovative cutting-edge building for kindergarten through sixth grade, which took years to build and design.
“This started over 20 years ago when the school board at the time bought the property and we have been planning for a very long time especially five years ago when we sat down with the design team from the Children’s Museum and Cannon Design,” said superintendent Tracy Vitale.
The building is very open unique and made up of learning tools for the students. “The idea behind this building is not just to give the answers out, it truly is an investigatory kind of building. We want to pique their curiosity,’ said assistant superintendent Sean McCarty.
“It’s really great and I love that experience for the kids, having that attention to detail and have them expand of their learning,” said parent Jessie Boal.
The school can hold 1400 students. The district built the new school since the district is growing. It closed the 84-year-old Evans City school this past spring.
School leaders said this school will be used as a model to renovate the other buildings in the district in the future.
