South Allegheny County weathering winter storm well

ELIZABETH, Pa. — Channel 11 saw dozens of plows on the main roads in Elizabeth all day Monday, pretreating the roads and clearing any snow accumulation. The ramp to Route 51 was clear with just some slush on the shoulder.

Monday afternoon and into the evening, business owners in the downtown district of Elizabeth got to work cleaning up. Heidi Bonacci owns Salon Second Avenue.  She says fortunately her business and many others are closed on Mondays.

“They always do an excellent job,” Heidi Bonacci tells Channel 11. “I never have concerns coming in. We usually don’t have to cancel or close. They do a great job.”

Bonacci was out shoveling and salting ahead of her business opening on Tuesday.

“Getting things cleared up for business tomorrow,” Bonacci said. “Trying not to let it get piled up too high.”

In the South Hills and Mon Valley, we saw the snow really started coming down with more intensity around 1:30 Monday afternoon and continuing into the evening before tapering off.

“This is the first time we’ve had snow for a while,” one neighbor in Elizabeth tells Channel 11. He said he had no trouble clearing off his car and didn’t stress too much about the commute to and from work.

“I do have work unfortunately, but it’s all right,” he added. “It’s not a problem for me.”

Heidi Bonacci said we’re used to it living in Pittsburgh.

“We’re used to driving in a little bit of it,” Bonacci added. “It’s fun. The holidays, you have to have a little bit of it.”
