State Rep. who serves Mon Valley area hospitalized following ‘medical emergency’

PITTSBURGH — A state representative who serves the Mon Valley area is in the hospital.

Democratic state Rep. Matt Gergely of McKeesport was hospitalized after a “medical emergency over the holidays,” according to a statement from Elizabeth Rementer, the press secretary for Majority Leader Matt Bradford.

Mckeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko also confirmed Gergley’s hospitalization, and asked the community to stand with the Gergely family.

“We wish him love, patience, and healing on his journey to a full recovery,” Cherepko said.

The nature of the medical emergency was not immediately available.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives reconvenes for the new season on Tuesday.
