Thousands will be on the North Shore Saturday for the Steelers regular season finale and both weather safety and security are on the top of the mind.
Saturday, temperatures are expected to be in the low 20′s, according to Chief Meteorologist Stephen Cropper, with wind chills around 10. That increases the danger for frostbite.
UPMC says the chances of frostbite increase once the temperature dips below 20 degrees.
Some things to watch for:
- skin discoloration
- numbness or a burning sensation in exposed areas
Get medical attention right away if you notice any of those early frostbite symptoms
Also top of mind: security, in the aftermath of the tragedy in New Orleans.
Acrisure Stadium always has barriers up to help regulate traffic and protect the large crowds going into the stadium.
Pittsburgh police acknowledged in the last few hours that the tragic events in New Orleans are top of mind in helping to formulate the security plans for Saturday’s game and any gathering where there are large crowds.
In a statement to Channel 11, they said:
The bureau is confident in the planning process and the security that is in place, both of which are adjusted according to the needs of each game. The bureau does this in conjunction with the NFL and the Steelers organization, and is poised to increase staffing as warranted.
The Steelers also told us in a statement Friday that they always work with local police and league security and they’re confident in the security measures in place for Saturday and every game.
