MCKEES ROCKS, Pa. — It’s expected to be a heated school board meeting on Thursday night. Sto-Rox parents are upset about the school’s response to the violence in the community involving the students.
“Little kids are getting shot for no reason. You can’t even come out of your house without looking over your shoulder every day,” said David Wolfe.
Earlier this week, a 15-year-old student was arrested for shooting and killing an 18-year-old high school student.
A few months ago, gunshots rang out just outside the high school’s football stadium with another teenager being hit.
Now Sto-Rox administrators are making changes. Students at the high school are no longer allowed to bring backpacks into the building, each student is searched in the morning and there is increased police presence throughout the day.
“People you know they could be bringing guns into the school, so yes, it helps. We needed metal detectors in every school nowadays,” Wolfe said.
But some parents don’t believe that is the answer.

They tell Channel 11 the administration needs to do more outside the school building. One mother said officers need to be monitoring school bus stops, but other community members said the solutions start at home.
“The parents, they need to be brought up right. Kids just aren’t raised like we were. We used to get spanked, and these kids just get away with whatever they want,” Wolfe said.
The school board members told Channel 11 they won’t have a comment until after they hear from the parents.
