PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools officials said a student was knocked unconscious during an in-school fight at Oliver High School on Monday.
DeShawn Wilkes, 16, told Channel 11 News that he was attacked while sitting in class. He said he suffered a swollen eye and cuts.
Wilkes mother said her son was in math class when another student walked in, and punched, kicked and threw a chair on top of him.
Desonve Ponton said her son was left unconscious on the floor with a concussion.
"I'm very upset because if I send my child to school, he should be protected at all times. How is another student able to walk into a different class, to walk passed a teacher and beat another student up?" Ponton said.
Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said the school is pressing charges against the other student involved. His name has not been released.
