“We don’t have a lot of random acts of violence. We have people that have become victims of violence from the lifestyle they are involved in,” Pittsburgh Police Chief Larry Scirotto said.
Sources tell Channel 11 the shooting was over drugs.
Within moments, a police officer was at the victim’s side, trying to revive him.
“Thankfully we had an officer that was within a block, at Mellon Square on patrol. He was able to get there who quickly, and most likely interrupt any additional violence from the three individuals that were shot,” Chief Scirotto said.
For months, we’ve been talking about violence near Smithfield Street.
Just this week, someone smashed the windows at the nearby Brooks Brothers. And, back in July, a homeless man randomly attacked someone at a downtown hotel.
But, Chief Scirotto says the random attacks are rare.
“There aren’t many non-involved individuals, the workers of downtown, employees of downtown, and the residents that become subject to this violence. The violence perpetuates within its circle,” he added.
Police say they have people of interest in this shooting, but have not charged anyone.
