Robbery suspect eludes state police in Fayette County, prompts manhunt

FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — State police searched the area near Laurel Highlands High School in Fayette County Wednesday afternoon after a robbery suspect eluded police who were attempting to serve a warrant, officials said.

Channel 11's Joe Holden reported that state police, local forces and K-9s were all hunting for Shane Nicholas Shipley, 27, of Perryopolis.

Police said Shipley is accused of robbing JC's Pool Hall in North Union Township on June 22 while wearing a child’s Spider-Man Halloween mask.

Investigators said Shipley’s two accomplices, Matthew Marquis and Misty King, were already in jail. Police said the pair identified Shipley to investigators.

Officers said Shipley fled when they showed up to arrest him at a house on Lenox Street in Uniontown.

Authorities said they are considering Shipley armed and dangerous and are proceeding cautiously.

Uniontown police Lt. Tom Kolencik told Holden that authorities have been flooded with tips from people who said they had spotted Shipley, but so far, he has eluded capture.

“The longer he goes like this the more there's a chance of somebody getting hurt, and also if somebody's keeping him in their home, they’re going to be arrested as well,” Kolencik said.

Meanwhile, the manager of JC's Pool Hall, Donna Morrison, said Shipley needs to take responsibility for what he’s done.

“That's why you teach your kids right from the wrong,” she said. “You cannot break the law and get away with it because it does not work that way.”
