PITTSBURGH — Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a press conference Monday that the person of interest in the UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting traveled to Pittsburgh before he was taken into custody in Altoona.
Police say the man, later identified as Luigi Mangione, was stopped at an Altoona area McDonald’s because of reports that he looked like the shooting suspect. NBC News reports he was found with a gun similar to the one used in the shooting, a silencer and a fake New Jersey ID. The New York Times reports that the man had a written manifesto that criticized health care companies for putting profits above care.

Mangione, 26, from Maryland is a University of Pennsylvania graduate and most recently lived in Hawaii.
He was initially arrested on an unrelated firearm charge and forgery. By late evening, prosecutors in Manhattan had added a charge of murder, according to the Associate Press. He’s expected to be extradited to New York eventually.
Thompson was killed Wednesday morning outside the New York Hilton Midtown. Police believe it was a targeted attack and the shooter acted alone.

The gunman fled to Central Park after the shooting, and police have been in the area collecting evidence for days. It is believed he left New York City by bus soon after the shooting.
Shapiro said after the shooting, the suspect traveled throughout Pennsylvania, including to Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
Shapiro is encouraging anyone from Pittsburgh who had any sightings or dealings with the suspect to contact law enforcement.
