According to Allegheny County 911, crews were called to the 10 block of Stewart Avenue at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Officials say the situation began as an altercation between a 51-year-old man and his wife.
The man allegedly left his house and went across the street where he broke into his parents’ house. When police arrived they said they saw him inside but said he refused to cooperate and began barricading himself in the basement.
Officers had concerns because the man had access to firearms.
After two hours SWAT used gas to get the man out of the house and place him under arrest.
Police led the shirtless man away in handcuffs and into a police SUV. Officers believe he was under the influence and say he was irritated.
The man was taken to a hospital. No other injuries were reported. Pittsburgh Police say he will also undergo a mental evaluation.
