PITTSBURGH — Target 11 received exclusive photos of salt that was supposed to be on city streets sitting in four separate dumpsters at the city of Pittsburgh’s First Division Public Works Building in Riverview Park.
Sources tell Target 11 it’s likely 10 to 20 tons of salt in the trash. The city’s largest plow trucks, when fully loaded, carry 10 tons of salt.
Target 11 spoke to a spokesperson from the mayor’s administration who called it a “case of human error.”
The spokesperson said the employee accidentally loaded the salt onto a truck with debris in it. The salt was then contaminated and had to be thrown away.
In a statement, the spokesperson said, “This particular incident was an anomaly and not representative of the great work our Public Works employees do every day. However, the department is reviewing the incident with staff to ensure these accidents do not happen again.”
