PITTSBURGH,None — Target 11 investigator Rick Earle has uncovered the areas of Pittsburgh where police said they have charged the most people with driving under the influence.
According to 2010 Pittsburgh Police statistics, the top five areas are:
5. Beechview – 24
4. Brookline – 32 (tie)
3. Shadyside – 32 (tie)
2. Downtown Pittsburgh – 49
1. South Side – 132
Police said the South Side lends itself to that kind of illegal activity.
"It's not surprising at all. I mean, when you look at the amount of traffic, foot traffic and cars plus the concentration of bars, it's just going to lend itself to that kind of problem," said Pittsburgh police Sgt. Terry Donnelly. "Our primary mission is to find people that are impaired while they are driving and to get them off the street."
Police said they made fewer DUI arrests in 2010 than in 2009. Last year, police charged 1,015 people with DUI in the city of Pittsburgh. In 2009, 1,084 were charged with DUI.
