PITTSBURGH — Two people were injured after a shooting in East Hills.
Allegheny County Dispatchers say emergency crews were called to the 2000 block of Fairlawn Street at 5:10 p.m. on Christmas.
Pittsburgh police say they found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot multiple times sitting on the porch of a house just a block down the road. The teen had been hit in the thigh and buttocks. He was able to talk to officers before being taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition.
A short time after the initial call police say a man in his mid-20s arrived at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. Police say he was uncooperative but is in stable condition.
As medics were treating the man at the hospital, Pittsburgh Police found a crime scene at the intersection of Fairlawn Street and Sunrise Avenue. They say the investigation indicates that the man in his mid-20s may have been shot at that intersection.
Antione Abram was just getting home from work when he said he heard 10 gunshots and then saw a young man staggering toward his porch on Fairlawn Street.
“He was stumbling, stumbling like he’s about to die,” Abram said. “This is bad, man. This is Christmas too. It’s sad.”
Abram told Channel 11 the 17-year-old boy came to his home for help after he was shot. He said he quickly grabbed a shirt to stop the bleeding.
“All I could do is try to grab him and put the tourniquet on him with one of my work shirts that was clean,” said Abram. “I said call 911. Call 911.”
He said he was trying to keep the teen alert as first responders came.
“I was keeping him conscious, talking to him,” Abram said. “I gave him water. He’s like, ‘Get me some water.’ I gave him some water. I put the pressure on, everything.”
Investigators were searching for evidence for hours. One man, who didn’t want to give his name, was startled by all the police.
“They lined up the whole street. I heard the detectives going around the house and all the flashlights and whatnot,” he said. “We’re people that mind our business, stay to ourselves. Nothing really happens like this on our street.”
As firefighters cleaned up the scene at Abram’s house, he said he’s grateful he was there when someone needed him the most.
“I saved a young boy’s life,” said Abram. “I feel like I did a good thing tonight. [He] almost bled out on my front porch.”
