UPDATE 12 a.m.:
Duquesne Light reports roughly 8,000 outages. West Penn Power now has less than 2,000.
UPDATE 10:35 p.m.:
Duquesne Light sent the following statement to Channel 11:
“Following this evening’s severe weather that impacted the Pittsburgh region, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) crews are working around the clock to safely restore service as quickly as possible, focusing first on critical and emergent needs. Approximately 12,000 customers are currently without power across Allegheny and Beaver counties, with heavy damage sustained in Aspinwall and Penn Hills resulting from wind gusts that reached more than 60 mph, as well as possible tornadoes. Roughly 28,000 customers were without power at the peak of the storm.
“DLC is continuing to assess the damage and will share an estimated time of restoration as soon as possible.”
UPDATE 10:30 p.m.:
Duquesne Light continues to report more than 10,000 outages. West Penn Power reports roughly 3,000.
UPDATE 9:45 p.m.:
About 15,000 customers are still out of power between both companies.
UPDATE 9:10 p.m.:
The National Weather Service says they will be conducting a storm survey in east-central Allegheny County to determine if a tornado touched down.
UPDATE 8:45 p.m.:
Duquesne Light Company is now reporting roughly 16,000 without power. West Penn Power has just under 10,000 outages.
UPDATE 7 p.m.:
Duquesne Light says customers should see power restored between 7:30 and 10 p.m.
UPDATE 6:40 p.m.:
The National Weather Service is asking people in the Pittsburgh region to submit damage reports.
UPDATE 6:20 p.m.:
Pitt police are advising neighbors to avoid the area of Fifth and Morewood Avenues in Oakland.
UPDATE 6:15 p.m.:
All severe storm warnings have expired.
UPDATE 6:10 p.m.:
Jefferson Hills police say Old Clairton Road between Wakefield Road and Coal Valley Road and Chamberlain Road will be closed for an “extended period” for multiple poles and wires down in the street.
