‘This is a 24-hour operation:’ Area USPS facility hard at work getting holiday packages delivered

WARRANDALE, Pa. — With Christmas rapidly approaching, postal employees are working around the clock to get packages processed and delivered.

Channel 11 got a chance to look inside the operation of a local USPS facility, the Pennwood Processing and Distribution Center in Warrendale.

Even when our cameras were in the building late in the evening, about 150 workers were on the move processing the hundreds of thousands of packages that move through the center each day.

Postal officials say this time of year is their Super Bowl, as everything ramps up during the holiday season.

If you’re still waiting to ship something, officials say time is running out.

“Mail now. Make sure we get them. We’re working through the clock. This is a 24-hour operation. We’re going to do our best to get them all out to the customer, so mail now and stay ahead of the game,” David Septak said.

On a normal night, around 150,000 packages are processed at this facility. On Tuesday, they were hoping to hit more than 400,000.
