PITTSBURGH — To say it’s been an emotional couple weeks for Tyler Boyd’s mother would be an understatement.
Tonya Scott has had to have a handkerchief on standby, saying, “I had a little crying going on, because you realize, you know, my baby’s going to the Super Bowl.”
Scott has had a perspective of Boyd’s career that only a mother could appreciate. She suffered with her son through the ups and downs, through a handful of losing seasons.

That makes this Super Bowl run all the more satisfying. She said, “This is Tyler’s first year ever going to the playoffs in the six years that he’s been with the Bengals.”
When Boyd takes the field on Sunday, Scott will also share in the joy of her son reaching the pinnacle of his sport.
Boyd is not only living out a dream, he’s experiencing his dream. All he wanted from a young age was to play in the NFL.
“All kinds of little boys want to be a football player when you grow up,” Scott says, “I have it right there on the wall of his when he said it.”
The way things worked out, Scott has to pinch herself sometimes.
“You sit back and you think, wow, you know, this is my kid,” she said.
Looking back on Tyler’s long life in football, Scott is understandably reflective: “We’ve come a long way. He’s come a long way, his journey. He’s where he wants to be.”
Now, days from the greatest game on the biggest stage, Tonya Scott is overflowing with pride. “He made his dream a reality.”
