PITTSBURGH — Dozens gathered Wednesday on the third anniversary of the shooting to remember and honor the three Pittsburgh police officers were shot and killed by a man in Stanton Heights.
Officers Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo and Stephen Mayhle died in 2009 while responding to a domestic dispute.
Richard Poplawski was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to death last year.
Family and friends watching a musical presentation called "An Evening of Hope" honoring the officers. The event was held at Saint Joseph Church on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield.
“We’re here to celebrate what they did for us and celebrate those still among us,” Sciullo’s cousin Bill Garrison said Wednesday.
“It’s just a very fitting tribute to our fallen brothers,” Pittsburgh Police Cmdr. Timothy O’Connor said.
