MERCER COUNTY — A 67-year-old man was seriously injured after a tree fell on his vehicle while he was driving on I-79 in Mercer County.

State police say the man was traveling in the southbound lanes when a large tree fell from the west side of the road and smashed into the right side of his Ford Freestar.

The force of the tree caused him to swerve off the road. His vehicle rolled over and he was ejected from the inside.

Bryan Phillips said he saw it all.

“It was out of nowhere. That’s something you don’t see every day. Thirty seconds later it could have been me, my wife and kids,” said Phillips.

Phillips said he worked with multiple people to get the tree off of the road so an ambulance could get through.

The driver of the car was taken to a hospital in Youngstown.
