Looking to make some money in the new year? Start by looking around the house and gathering up all your used electronics.
Everything from phones to tablets to gaming devices – can be sold or traded in—instead of sitting there and getting dusty.
Consumer adviser Clark Howard says it’s a good time to do an electronics clean out.
“So, what happens is old electronics become forgotten about. They go in a drawer they go in the closet, and they don’t get any better with time,” said Clark.
There are plenty of places that will take your used electronics – so we decided to check some out.
Let’s start with Amazon trade-in. After logging in you can see offers right away for devices you own – plus a promotional discount if you want to buy a new device.
Best Buy also has a trade in program. You can bring in a plethora of devices. They will be evaluated and you will get a Best Buy gift card in return.
According to the blog “Making Sense of Cents” – Decluttr is one of the best places to sell electronics---the blog calls the process easy and hassle-free. You get paid by direct deposit or PayPal.
And something called EcoATM allows you to drop off your device at a kiosk—there are thousands around the country – in places like Walmart and Dollar General. To sell – you place your device in the EcoATM, wait for an offer and receive cash instantly if you decide to sell.
But a warning from Clark Howard before you sell or trade in anything --
“Anytime you have, in particular, a computer or a phone you have to make sure you wipe them clean.”
Wipe your info, get rid of your devices, and get some cash.
