The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victims as 17-year-old Jaiden Brown and 17-year-old Mathew Steffy-Ross.
Jaiden Brown’s family shared this photo of him with Channel 11:
Channel 11 has learned that the two teenage boys who were shot and killed in this weekend’s mass shooting attended high school around the Pittsburgh area.
Jaiden Brown’s family tells Channel 11, he was about to turn 18, and was enrolled at Woodland Hills High School.
Woodland Hills Superintendent, Dr. Daniel Castagna, sent a notice to students, staff, and parents that said in part, “Let us extend our deepest sympathy to the family impacted by this senseless violence. We all, as educators, and parents, feel the pain of this unimaginable loss.”
The other teenager who died was identified as Mathew Steffy-Ross, who lived in Pitcairn.
He was a student at Grace Non-Traditional Christian Academy.
Dr. Terrie Reed, the CEO of the academy said, “Our hearts and prayers go out to both families of the victims from the Easter Sunday shooting in East Allegheny. Mathew Steffy-Ross was a senior who was kind, respectful, and considerate of others. He loved music and had a promising future. Tragically, both Mathew’s and Jaiden’s life were unfairly cut short by another senseless act of violence. Life is not a video game. Guns in the wrong hands can end a life. We as a society must do more to intervene to stop these shootings. Too many lives are lost and we all feel the impact from the loss of so many of our young people.”
Eight others were shot at a party in an Airbnb on Pittsburgh’s North Side early Sunday morning.
