FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Pittsburgh-area Teamsters union members are picketing outside the Amazon fulfillment center in Findlay Township as part of a nationwide strike.

Around seven members gathered outside of the entrance at around 6 a.m. For over four hours, no trucks could enter the facility, but that has since changed. Teamsters Local 249 President Kevin Schmitt said that at 10;30 a.m., trucks were allowed to pass because Amazon filed a lawsuit out of New York. Now, Schmitt said picketing has to stop every five minutes to allow trucks to come through.

Schmitt earlier said that this is going to be an around-the-clock picket and will stay there until Amazon begins to negotiate.

Workers across the country went on strike Thursday, an effort by the Teamsters to pressure the e-commerce company for a labor agreement during a key shopping period.

No workers from the Amazon facility are a part of the strike as they are not unionized.

The Teamsters say the workers, who authorized strikes in the past few days, are joining the picket line after Amazon ignored a Sunday deadline the union set for contract negotiations. Amazon says it doesn’t expect an impact on its operations during what the union calls the largest strike against the company in U.S. history.
