Union says striking Post-Gazette worker was assaulted while picketing

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Strike Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers from multiple unions walked off the job in October.

PITTSBURGH — Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council President Darrin Kelly will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. today after the union says a striking Pittsburgh Post-Gazette worker was assaulted while picketing.

According to an incident report, this happened Saturday night outside a Post-Gazette distribution center on the South Side.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newsroom workers voted to authorize a labor strike against the company and walked off the job in October.

The union and the Post-Gazette disagree about what started the incident. The Post-Gazette says a contracted driver was physically and verbally attacked while the union says the truck driver assaulted two striking workers, sending one to the hospital with a broken jaw.

The Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council says it’s demanding answers and accountability.
