PITTSBURGH — UPMC joined the Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), Donate Life America and organ procurement organizations throughout the country to celebrate National Donate Life Month by holding its annual flag-raising ceremony.
More than 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for an organ transplant, and seventeen people will die each day waiting for one.
National Donate Life Month helps educate those who are considering becoming a donor.
“Our work is not done. Registering as an organ and tissue donor is a simple act of love and generosity. The impact cannot be understated,” said UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside President Sandy Rader.
Each donor could potentially save eight lives and help more than 75 people.
