PITTSBURGH — UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and Independence Health System’s Frick Hospital received honors Tuesday from patient safety watchdog organization The Leapfrog Group.
UPMC Children’s Hospital received one of eight of Top Children’s Hospital awards for the entire country and Frick Hospital was named a top general hospital in Pennsylvania. Also receiving an award was another UPMC hospital, UPMC Carlisle.
The award for UPMC Children’s Hospital takes into account metrics including infection rates, best practices for surgery, maternity care and the elimination of medical errors. Leapfrog measures these and more and to qualify, the hospitals needed to receive an A rating from Leapfrog in the latest report, which was released in November.
“This award recognizes our incredible team of physicians, nurses and staff who always put our patients first and provide the highest-quality compassionate care in the safest environment for our families,” said UPMC Children’s Hospital President Diane Hupp.
