PITTSBURGH — Amid the ongoing saga of its proposed $14.9 billion acquisition by Japanese steelmaking giant Nippon Steel, and with big questions looming about the future of the company’s Mon Valley operations, United States Steel Corp. is investing in the local talent pipeline.

Bidwell Training Center, the Manchester-based hands-on training provider for programs in health services, STEM and culinary arts, announced that the company had contributed $30k to support the chemical lab tech training program at the school.

According to Bidwell, its chem lab tech program consists of 11 months of training, with a curriculum focused on math, chemistry and safety. It also includes an externship with a local employer. At the conclusion of the program, participants earn their associates degree in specialized technology.
