PITTSBURGH — Viewers of Channel 11 Morning News have taken note of a new face this week. Meteorologist Valerie Smock has joined the AM team!
Now part of Severe Weather Team 11, Valerie came to Pittsburgh from AccuWeather, where she had been a forecaster for the past three years.
"When I heard about the chance to be part of such a wonderful organization, I had to jump at the opportunity," Smock said.
An interesting note about Valerie is that she has also served as a public affairs specialist in the Air Force Reserves and as a military police officer in the Ohio Army National Guard. Being in the service has taken her to Haiti for hurricane relief efforts, as well as Kuwait and Germany in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Click here to learn more about Valerie.
Valerie's arrival means that Meteorologist Kevin Benson can and will return to his preferred weekend shift. Kevin had been on weekends for years before agreeing to fill in on weekday mornings for a limited time. Watch for Kevin on Saturdays and Sundays after the holidays.
Now more than ever, Severe Weather Team 11 delivers storm coverage you can count on.
