Vandalism at Dickerson Run Union Cemetery in Dunbar Township prompts state police investigation

DUNBAR TOWNSHIP — Vandalism at Dickerson Run Union Cemetery in Dunbar Township is under investigation.

Cemetery board members are not exactly sure when the vandalism happened, but they believe it took place sometime between Sunday and Monday.

A board member discovered the mess on Tuesday.

It appears someone did donuts in a vehicle on the cemetery grounds, knocking over nearly a dozen headstones.

“He’d have to have a big truck to go down here and with so much damage he did here, some of the big stones are 4 or 5 feet high and he hit them and knocked them over and eventually kept on going,” described cemetery board chairman Lance Winterhalter.

The cemetery is still working to notify all of the families of the destroyed gravesites.

Board members are working with state police to track down the driver.

Investigators are looking for security camera footage from neighbors.

The cemetery board is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
