Carol Bellhai planned to celebrate her 80th birthday with her family at Eat ‘n Park near Clearview Mall Monday morning. But when they pulled into the parking lot —
“I said ‘Gee, it’s closed…it’s never closed...” Bellhai said.
A vehicle crashed into the restaurant around 6:10 a.m. Monday. State police told Channel 11 the driver, who was heading south on Route 8, was likely speeding and lost control.
Customers were surprised to see shards of glass and mangled metal among the tables, chairs, and booths inside of restaurant.
The driver was the only occupant in the vehicle and had minor injuries, according to state police.
No customers were inside the Butler County restaurant at the time of the crash.
“That’s amazing that you can do that much damage, and luckily, there was no one there because people come here early for breakfast,” said Armand R. Cingolani, who walks his dog in the area. “A lot of people speed here. We pull out on Glenwood Way, and even though you have a green light, you have to stop because people will act like it’s I-79, and they just keep driving.”
A representative for the restaurant told Channel 11 around 11:35 a.m. that the restaurant had reopened to customers.
