Volunteers lay wreaths on veteran graves at several Western Pennsylvania cemeteries

For the 32nd year, volunteers honored veterans on Saturday for Wreaths Across America Day.

Wreaths Across America is an organization that aims to lay wreaths on every veteran’s grave throughout the country every holiday season, including several in western Pennsylvania.

“We got a lot, a lot of volunteers from the community and family members and veterans, and it’s very impressive to see this turnout we’re having today,” said Edward Hajduk, the Director of the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Hajduk said it’s the 9th year that all 17,000 graves at the cemetery were able to be covered with wreaths.

Wreaths were also placed on veteran graves at Union Cemetery in Irwin and St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cemetery in West Mifflin.
