WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — A water main break in West Mifflin flooded area streets and nearby homes Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the 8-inch main break happened on Carolina Avenue around 1 p.m.

Chopper 11 flew over the scene showing muddy water flowing into two nearby homes.

Homeowner Barry Matta said Wednesday was the second time in about a year his home was flooded because of a water main break.

“Why did it happen? I don’t know,” Matta said. “I guess they didn’t see something, or the peripheral damage was missed when they were repairing last year’s break.”

According to the Pennsylvania-American Water Company, any damage to homes will be covered by its disaster policy.

“I was in the driveway washing my car and the ground started bubbling up and then it let loose,” Matta said.

Steve Arbasak said the mess in his house is something he doesn’t want to have to deal with.

“We came out and low and behold, it was out there again. This is the third break in three years,” Arbasak said.

According to Arbasak, the same line has ruptured in three separate places in a 30-foot span.

Crews haven’t said how long they expect the cleanup process to take.
