CANONSBURG, Pa. — A student at Canon-McMillan High School was removed by police after a weapon was discovered on them Friday morning.
According to a letter sent to district families, the North Strabane Township Police Department and administration members were able to remove the student from the classroom without incident.
Channel 11 spoke with community members with relatives at the high school. They told us they are shaken but happy with how the district responded.
Betty McGowan has grandsons in the high school.
“I mean, with all the school shooting(s) we’ve had and the number of people that have died because of it, it’s really scary,” she said.
Vicki Evans has a grandson at the school and told us the news made her want to “run home and give him a call.”
Craig Friday has a daughter in the middle school but received the email blast that went out to parents. “My wife and I both got it. Didn’t know anything else other than that,” he said.
The type of weapon the student had has not been revealed.
The school said that counselors are available to speak with any students affected by the incident.
