NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Some of the top young football players in Western Pennsylvania were in New Kensington Saturday, hoping to win a prestigious award.
Armstrong senior quarterback Cadin Olsen won the Willie Thrower award for the second straight year.
The award is named after the first Black quarterback in NFL history, Willie Thrower, a New Kensington native.
11 News talked to Thrower’s son after the awards ceremony.
“We look forward to rewarding the young men that have spent their entire season earning this trip up here, so it’s exciting,” said Melvin Smith, Thrower’s son.
Olsen was chosen over four other quarterbacks from the WPIAL and City League to earn the high honors.
Olsen will play at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall.
