Car slams into New Kensington motel and catches fire

NEW KENSINGTON — A car slammed into the corner of the Quality Inn motel in New Kensington around 2 a.m. Sunday, erupting into flames and rupturing a gas line.

A big portion of the damage is in the ballroom, which was on the other side of the wall.

Two people were in the car at the time of the crash. Channel 11 learned they were guests at the motel.

Another guest at the motel, Stuart Wantman, decided to check out early due to the crash.

“No hot water and heat. Not a good combination? Not when it’s 12 degrees. It’s supposed to get warmer but I’d still like a hot shower,” Wantman said.

Wantman also said guests had no idea the car hit the building until they woke up.

The guest rooms are on the other side of the building. Front desk worker Dave Ross worked the overnight shift and said no one was evacuated.

“I had a few calls from people and I told them to stay in their room, keep your door closed,” Ross said.

The passenger of the vehicle was taken to the hospital and there’s no word on their condition.
