“It’s senseless”: Community grieving woman killed by husband at Lower Burrell U-Haul facility

LOWER BURRELL, Pa. — Friends and neighbors are left stunned and shocked by the death of Kelly Steele, who was killed over the weekend.

”She was my buddy before I got married, I would do everything with her. I took her shopping, I went in a Halloween parade her, she’d spend a night with me and after I had my kids; she started babysitting my kids when she got older,” Kim Bauman said.

Bauman has known Kelly Steele her whole life and is left devastated to hear the tragic way it came to an end.

”It’s senseless. He didn’t have to do that. Kelly didn’t deserve that. Nobody does, but Kelly didn’t. Not from him,” Bauman said

.Her husband, Alfred Keith Steele, allegedly admitted to shooting her in the back of the head after they met at the U-Haul storage facility in Lower Burrell.

Steele allegedly told officers he argued with Kelly about infidelity — something friends said, was the farthest from the truth.

”Kelly would never.”

Bauman said she does not believe Steele’s story.

”Nope not for a second.”Police said he left her body in the storage unit and drove to the state police barracks and turned himself in.

The pain it’s leaving behind on family and friends is incomprehensible.

”If you needed something, even if she didn’t have it, she would try to help you get what you needed. That’s just how she was. She loved everybody. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body,” Bauman said.

”She was just a sweetheart. One of the nicest people you’d ever meet,” former neighbor Charlie Seibel said.

Kelly leaves behind two kids and two grandkids. Friends said they want her to be remembered for the kindness and compassion she showed everyone she knew.

”How loving she was. How she loved her family. Her grandchildren. She just liked everybody. She didn’t deserve it. Not at all,” Bauman said.

Steele remains in the county jail without bail.
