The crash happened just before 3 a.m. along Route 51 at Brownsville Road.

Officials told Channel 11 the driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old woman, lost control, then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to crash and catch fire. She had to be extricated from the vehicle.

She was not conscious when first responders arrived and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

There are two businesses in the building and an apartment on the third floor.

A woman who lives there told Channel 11 it sounded like an earthquake when the vehicle hit.

“I was asleep,” Shawane Frost said. “Then I heard a loud boom, and the building shook.”

Part of the building was in pieces and there was burned debris on the ground.

There’s no word on the driver’s current condition.
