Woman posing as FedEx worker stole packages worth hundreds of dollars from Pittsburgh neighborhood

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have charged a woman who neighbors say posed as a FedEx worker and stole hundreds of dollars in packages from a Mount Washington neighborhood.

The initial incident happened back on Nov. 4 along Beam Way.

Neighbors caught Laura Woester on surveillance footage committing the crimes and taking off with the packages.

Home surveillance video shows Woester with her face mask pulled down and sporting a black and purple FedEx uniform.

Neighbors told Channel 11 the Pittsburgh woman seemingly looked the part of a delivery driver, but clearly something was off.

They spotted her scoping out homes donned in FedEx apparel, with a car trailing behind her.

According to neighbors, she would walk up and grab the packages and hop into a black Kia SUV waiting nearby.

In one incident she knew she was caught on camera, neighbors said, so she went back to her car, put on a camo jacket and a different colored mask and returned to steal more packages shortly after.

Police told Channel 11 they are familiar with Woester from past run-ins.

Neighbors hope by sharing the story and footage others won’t fall victim to another porch pirate in your community.

“It’s a bad thing to do… she must not have no heart or soul,” said Bates.

Woester is facing a misdemeanor theft charge. Her court date has not yet been set.

Channel 11 reached out to FedEx to ask if Woester was ever an employee and where she got the uniform. The company sent back a statement:

“At this time, we have not found any record of this individual working for or providing service for FedEx.

“Drivers making deliveries for FedEx wear company-issued photo ID badges at all times and only pick up shipments upon request by the customer. Any customer who suspects fraudulent activity should contact police. We cooperate with authorities in these investigations.”
