Man Claims Pittsburgh Police Officer Pistol-Whipped Him During Traffic Stop

PITTSBURGH,None — A Pittsburgh man said he was pistol whipped by a Pittsburgh police narcotics officer last year during a traffic stop and now has plans to sue the department.

"I was pistol whipped over this side but it's just healed up. It's all healed up now," said Anthony Kenney.

Kenney claims the beating happened last December in Pittsburgh's North Side. Kenney said he was pulled over and pulled out of his car for what his lawyer said was a minor traffic violation.

"There's a four way stop sign. The officers are saying they [Kenney] did not make that left turn signal," said defense attorney Blaine Jones.

Kenney said his brother jumped out of his car and ran down Olive Street, away from the officer, but was later caught. Kenney's brother was charged with allegedly possessing crack cocaine, and Anthony Kenney was charged with eluding police.

Police said Kenney was driving the car and that he didn't stop when they ordered him to.

Kenney told Channel 11's Alan Jennings that he's "totally innocent" and that no one deserves to be beaten with a pistol. Sources told Jennings that the FBI is investigating the incident.

Kenney said he has hired Pittsburgh attorney Tim O'Brien, who is working on filing a federal lawsuit against the Pittsburgh Police Department and the unnamed narcotics officer.
