Man shot and killed during possible robbery attempt in Pitcairn, police say

PITCAIRN, Pa. — A man was killed early Tuesday during a possible robbery attempt in Pitcairn, Channel 11’s Jennifer Tomazic reported.

Police were called shortly after 1 a.m. to the first floor of an apartment building on Broadway Avenue, where a man had been shot several times. He died at the hospital.

The medical examiner identified the victim as Anthony Bailey, 27, of Penn Hills.

Neighbors told police that they saw two people running from the area.

"It's beginning to scare me," said Gerald Kunkle, who lives two floors above the apartment where the shooting took place. "Everyone knows everyone in the building and we pretty much stick together."

No arrests have been made.

Investigators were trying to determine why Bailey was at the apartment building, and they said a possible motive was robbery. They do not believe Bailey or the shooters lived there.

This is the first homicide in Pitcairn since 2011.

"It's not as safe as it used to be," neighbor Lisa Lawrence said. "Instead of everyone looking out for each other, they turn the cheek and look away."
