WILKINSBURG, Pa. — A man was rushed to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the stomach in Wilkinsburg Saturday afternoon.

The owner of Franklin House Personal Care Home on the 1200 block of Franklin Avenue told Channel 11 that she was in the dining room when she heard a loud noises.

"We heard, boom, boom, boom, boom, four shots. I don't know from where; somewhere up in the alley. Next thing I know, we hear a car go ‘errr,’ and we hear a crash, and we got up running," said Juanita Parks, the personal care home’s owner.

Police said a man in his 20s and a female passenger in a green Ford Expedition were being chased by another vehicle from where shots were being fired. The driver of the Expedition then drove into the back of the personal care home.

Witnesses told Channel 11 that they saw the woman run from the scene and a male get out of the car, saying that he had been shot.

A few minutes later, Parks said the man, with a gunshot wound to his stomach, knocked on her door.

"Then there was a guy on my porch saying he'd been shot (and) to please call 911, and I did," Parks said.

A construction worker across the street told Channel 11 what he saw after the crash.

“We heard three shots over the machines. They were really loud. I actually thought the machines malfunctioned, but we looked out the window and there was someone running toward this house holding their side,” Rodrigo Rodiz said.

The victim was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and is expected to recover.

Parks said she feels lucky to be unharmed because she was just about to go outside and clean up the yard with her granddaughter before the vehicle crashed into the building.

"We were ready to go out back and clean the yard as soon as we got off the internet. We were going to go back there, I'm glad we didn't," Parks said.

All of the residents at the personal care home were uninjured. The building was badly damaged due to the crash and has been deemed unsafe to live in by officials.

"I feel very lucky ,but the Lord knows what's best," Parks said.

The Red Cross is providing assistance and lodging to 10 adults displaced from the home.

Police are investigating.
