Mother of man killed in 2014 Wilkinsburg shooting speaks out

PITTSBURGH — A mother who lost her son during the summer of 2014 is revisiting the same spot where he was killed two summers ago.

“It’s a pain and a hurt I live with every day,” LaShalle Gibson said.

Gibson’s son, Kevin, was gunned down while in his car on Hays Street in Wilkinsburg during the summer of 2014.

“I’m not going to say he was the best child, but he was mine,” Gibson said.

Kevin was arrested for a home invasion a few weeks before his death and his mother believes that may have led to his killing.

She hopes, but doesn’t believe, a killer will be caught.

Over the past year, Gibson hadn’t heard from police and fears justice for her son could be put on the backburner.

“I wasn’t getting any answers,” Gibson said.

Channel 11 reached out to homicide detectives and they said they are still actively investigating the case.

“I am not the only mother out here going through this,” Gibson said.

Gibson understands her son’s case isn’t the only investigation, she’s simply hoping that movement will lead to an arrest, and ultimately, some closure.
