Mother still looking for answers nearly 1 year after her 11-year-old son's shooting death

MOUNT OLIVER, Pa. — Nearly one year after an 11-year-old boy was shot and killed in his Mount Oliver home and his brother wounded, their mother is still looking for answers and fears her sons' case is going cold.

“It sounds morbid and sad, but I have a little bit of comfort knowing he was at home and not on the streets alone,” Amanda McKnight told Channel 11 News on Thursday regarding the death of her younger son.

McKnight said she never thought she’d even go a week without knowing who killed her 11-year-old son David McIntyre and nearly killed her now-17-year-old son CJ Conrad. The beginning of November will mark one year since a gunman stood in the family’s doorway and opened fire on the two brothers as they played video games.

“I look at people and go, ‘Is it you? Is it you? Could it be you? Why did you do this?’ And I think that's my biggest question is why? What did my children do to you?” McKnight said.

McKnight and her family have held monthly vigils in front of her former home, where the shooting took place. She said while waiting for news of an arrest, she has watched CJ endure countless painful surgeries to repair the damage to his hand and arm.

McKnight said detectives told her they’re still at square one. She said she knows life goes on, but finds it difficult to move forward knowing her son’s killer has not been caught.

“Everyone says, ‘Oh, it gets easier with time,’ and I just don't feel that it does. Maybe if I had some type of closure it may be a little bit easier, but not knowing who did this to my children makes it worse,” McKnight said.

Allegheny County police investigators told Channel 11 News that they are still working on the case but need leads. A $2,000 reward is still being offered for information that leads to an arrest. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
