HACIENDA HEIGHTS, Calif. — Officials have identified a girl whose body was found near a California hiking trail and detained two people of interest in connection with her death.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced late Sunday that authorities had identified the girl as Trinity Love Jones, 9, of Los Angeles County.
County employees reportedly found Jones' body Tuesday morning "partially inside a black, rollaway-type duffel bag" down an embankment in Hacienda Heights, the Sheriff's Department said last week. Detectives believe she died about 48 hours earlier, KTTV reported.
"Although the Coroner's Office determined the death to be a homicide, the cause of death is being withheld," the Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
Authorities detained two people of interest in the case but have not released their names.
The news came just days after the Sheriff's Department released sketches of the girl, along with photos of the bag and her clothes.
"Due to the overwhelming response from the news media and tips received from the public, investigators have identified the deceased child," the department said Sunday.
