Pentagon uses colorful cartoon to explain U.S. military

I bet you didn't know Uncle Sam is looking for gourmet chefs.

That's just one of the many things explained in a new two-minute video on the Pentagon's revamped website.

Produced by a young service member, the video uses rudimentary and brightly colored animations to explain what the five branches of the military do.

Set to a cheery soundtrack, the video shows the military fighting cartoon pirates and drug dealers.

Pentagon officials say the video "matches up with the way Americans view news and content online."

Low unemployment and the strong economy are creating shortages in key areas of the military.

The Department of Defense hopes the updated website helps attract new recruits.
