PITTSBURGH — Multiple women have become the victims of violence in the city of Pittsburgh in recent weeks. It’s an alarming trend that community members want to see end.

“This ain’t right, this ain’t right. We shouldn’t be having no vigil for her,” said Dominique Brown, whose friend Myanne Hayes was killed Monday night. “I look up and I see police everywhere. I’m like something’s wrong. Would have never thought it was her.”

Hayes, a mother of three, was found shot to death in her car. Her murder is the 58th in the city of Pittsburgh this year. In the past month, two women and a teenager have been among the victims.

RaShawn Gibson, 17, was killed outside a home in Sheraden Tuesday. He was senior at Brashear High School and planned to attend college next year.

“Literally, every week there’s someone that I know that’s passing away. It’s real scary,” said Tevaraus Davis who knew Gibson.

On the Pittsburgh Police Facebook page, Channel 11 found a picture of two people holding signs. The person on the left is an off-duty Zone 5 police officer. He’s holding a sign that reads “Honk 4 Peace.”

No arrests have been made in either shooting.
