SEWICKLEY, Pa. — A convicted sex offender who was arrested for child pornography after police executed a search warrant, told authorities that he had molested five or six other children, but he was never caught, according to a criminal complaint.
Robert Hegner, 65, is facing child pornography-related charges after more than a 1,000 videos and pictures were found on his computer at his home on Charette Place, police said.
Police said they received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led to district attorney investigators to find more than 1,000 pictures and videos of children on his computer.
Hegner told police he had been looking at pictures of infants, but prefers 12-14 year-old boys.
Hegner lives with his wife and adult son, but told authorities they did not know he was looking at child pornography, which is a clear violation of his probation terms from previous convictions.
Hegner was convicted in 2000 of indecent assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children. He was convicted again the same year of corruption of minors again.
Channel 11’s Renee Kaminski asked neighbors if they knew he was a Megan’s Law offender and reported that he was well-known around the community.
“He’s been funny all his life,” a neighbor said.
